The police officer who catches a thief while patrolling our neighborhood. The firefighter who contained the blaze to one room and saved your home. The deputy who busted the drug operation before the drugs hit our streets. These public safety officers and others protect our property, our lives, and our freedom. They put their lives on the line for our protection and safety every day. Our society cannot function without them. These officers are often overworked, underpaid and underappreciated.
The Public Safety Insurance Fund (PSIF), a 501c3 charitable foundation established in 2002, is the nation’s first free life insurance program for public safety officers. The PSIF, which now consists of more than 165 River Region businesses, individuals, and organizations, was created in response to the events of 9/11 by Montgomery businessmen Grant Sullivan and Jerry Wills. The duo organized a coalition of local businesses to demonstrate gratitude to public safety officials for their service and sacrifice to the community. Based upon input provided by public safety officials, the group resolved to provide annually renewed free life and accidental death insurance policies worth up to $60,000 in benefits ($10,000 life insurance and $50,000 accidental death). These benefits, afforded at absolutely no cost to taxpayers or the officers themselves, are now provided for every active duty officer with the
