The Public Safety Insurance Fund

The Public Safety Insurance Fund is a Non-Profit Organization whose mission is to provide free supplemental life and accidental death insurance to every public safety officer in Alabama.

The Public Safety Insurance Fund Story

The police officer who catches a thief while patrolling our neighborhood. The firefighter who contained the blaze to one room and saved your home. The deputy who busted the drug operation before the drugs hit our streets. These public safety officers and others protect our property, our lives, and our freedom. They put their lives on the line for our protection and safety every day. Our society cannot function without them. These officers are often overworked, underpaid and underappreciated.

The Public Safety Insurance Fund (PSIF), a 501c3 charitable foundation established in 2002, is the nation’s first free life insurance program for public safety officers. The PSIF, which now consists of more than 165 River Region businesses, individuals, and organizations, was created in response to the events of 9/11 by Montgomery businessmen Grant Sullivan and Jerry Wills.  The duo organized a coalition of local businesses to demonstrate gratitude to public safety officials for their service and sacrifice to the community.  Based upon input provided by public safety officials, the group resolved to provide annually renewed free life and accidental death insurance policies worth up to $60,000 in benefits ($10,000 life insurance and $50,000 accidental death).  These benefits, afforded at absolutely no cost to taxpayers or the officers themselves, are now provided for every active duty officer with the

Montgomery Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, the Montgomery Fire Department, the Montgomery City Jail, Montgomery District Attorney’s officers/investigators, the Prattville Police Department, the Prattville Fire Department, the Autauga County Sheriff’s Department, the Wetumpka Police Department, the Wetumpka Fire Department, the Elmore County Sheriff’s Department, the Millbrook Police Department, the Millbrook Fire Department, Alabama State Troopers on highway patrol, State Capitol Police, Alabama Marine Police, and the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Enforcement Officers, Marine Resources, Game Wardens, Poarch Creek Indian Public Safety Officers, and Bullock County Sherriff’s officers.

Public Safety Insurance Fund sponsors receive a PSIF Member car decal and media exposure through print, radio, television and outdoor advertising (in addition to the gratitude of  Alabama’s public safety officials!).

The members of the PSIF feel this gift is a small way to say “Thank You” to the public safety officers for the sacrifice and commitment they make for the protection of our communities and our families.
